Rehman Malik died at the age of 70

Former interior minister, senator and Pakistan Peoples Party leader Rehman Malik died at the age of 70 in Islamabad between Tuesday and Wednesday night.



Rehman Malik's spokesman Riaz Ali Turi confirmed his death.


He had been undergoing treatment for coronavirus in a hospital in Islamabad for several days and his lungs were affected.


On February 1, PPP Senator Sehar Kamran said on Twitter that Rehman Malik had been transferred to Vanity Fair due to complications of the corona virus.


He was considered a close associate of PPP leader and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.


In recognition of Rehman Malik's services, he has also been awarded Sitara-e-Shujaat and Nishan-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan.


He is survived by a widow and two sons.


Pakistani politicians and others have expressed their grief and sorrow over the death of Rehman Malik in their messages on Twitter.


In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, Pakistani Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi expressed deep sorrow and grief over the demise of former Interior Minister and Senator Rehman Malik and offered condolences to his family.


PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal wrote in his message that he was deeply saddened by the death of Rehman Malik.
