If any Prime Minister has to be removed from office in a constitutional manner, then the law of Pakistan is very clear in this regard.

When the requisition is received by the National Assembly Secretariat, the Speaker is bound by the Constitution to convene a meeting within 14 days of receiving the requisition.


The government convened a meeting of the National Assembly on March 25 and Fateha was offered for the late member of the National Assembly on the first day after which the Speaker adjourned the sitting till Monday, March 28.

The magic number for the success of the no-confidence motion is '172' which is a simple majority of the total number of the present House. Since the no-confidence motion was filed by the opposition, it is their responsibility to present 172 members against the Prime Minister on the day of the referendum.


If the opposition fails to win the support of 172 members, the no-confidence motion against the prime minister will fail and he will remain in office.


However, if the opposition brings in 172 or more members, the prime minister will have to resign and his entire cabinet will be dissolved.
