North Korea has tested the intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasung 17, which Western analysts call the "Monster Missile", prompting the United States to impose new sanctions on the country.
The Associated Press reports, citing a statement from State Department spokesman Ned Price, that the United States has imposed sanctions on five Russian companies and one North Korean individual following the North Korean missile strike.
The report said that the companies and individuals had allegedly transferred sensitive parts to North Korea's missile program.
The report also states that the United States has requested a UN Security Council meeting on the issue, which is expected to take place on Friday, according to US envoys to the United Nations.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has telephoned his Japanese and South Korean counterparts to discuss North Korea's response and increase defense cooperation.
On the other hand, according to Reuters, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenben said, "We urge all parties to exercise restraint and we are concerned about the current situation."
